The Climate in Santa Catarina
April 2006

The summer in Santa Catarina occurs between November and March, in the middle of the winter in the northern hemisphere. The summer climate is comfortable and the highest temperature of the day seldom reaches above 90 oF (30 oC), and decreases to 75 oF (24 oC) during the evening. In few occasions, a couple of days per year, the temperature may approach 100 oF (38 oC) and around 80 oF (28 oC) during the evening.

The period June to August is considered winter, when the daily temperature stays around 70 oC (21 oC). It is however colder during the night, often reaching below 59 oF (15 oC) and in rare cases as low as 40 oF (5 oC).

The diagram shows the monthly average of the highest temperature of the day.

The typical rain season in Santa Catarina occurs in September and October, and in April and May. But it is also common that it rains for some 15 to 30 minutes in the summer, a short rain fall that normally occurs in the late afternoon. The positive side of the rain is that it refreshes the air and maintains the green environment.

The relative humidity is pleasant, around 70% during the summer.
